FUNDRAISING PROGRAMS
 
Jump Rope for Heart
Jump Rope for Heart is a complete in-school program that provides teachers and children with the resources they need to live a healthier lifestyle. It is an easy way to combine a curriculum of cardiovascular fitness with fun. It is educational and supports an important cause-the fight against heart disease and stroke. Over the past 20 years, participation in this program has helped Canada's students get more active and make healthier decisions that last a lifetime.
 
Hoops for Heart
Hoops for Heart is an in-school basketball program, that provides the resources to teach the students the importance of caring for their hearts. It is a fun-filled social event that promotes physical activity while supporting a worthwhile cause. The program gives the students the opportunity to improve their fitness while reducing risk factors. It promotes daily physical activity, which is associated with better eating habits and boosting self-esteem, while causing a decline in smoking and drinking. It helps Canada's youth to make heart healthy lifestyle choices that will shape their future.
 
Person to Person Campaign
During February, Heart & Stroke month volunteer canvassers go door to door to request donations in support of this annual campaign.
 
Memorial Gifts
Through the cooperation of the local funeral homes, people make donations in memory of friends and family.
 
Fit for Heart
Fitness clubs, universities, community and seniors' centers sponsor various activities such as aerobics, swims, weight lifting, etc., where the participants raise funds through pledges.
 
Big Bike for Stroke
A 30 seat bicycle which travels to large and small communities throughout Ontario to raise funds for research that fights the debilitating and deadly disease of stroke.
 
Mother-Daughter Walks for Heart & Stroke
Together, Canadian women and those who care about them can reduce their risks and improve their odds to fight heart disease and stroke.
 
Paint the Town Red
A fun filled program during February where businesses sell hearts for $2.00 each to staff and customers who dedicate them to a loved one.
HEALTH PROMOTIONS
 
Heart To Heart
An 8 week support & education program for heart attack, angina, heart surgery patients and their partners.
 
Emergency Cardiac Care (ECC)
Is enhanced through the Foundations guidelines for CPR training.
 
Health Line
Was developed as a means to respond to your increasing need for heart, stroke, women-specific and healthy lifestyle information. Call 1-888-473-4636
 
Community Presentation Program
Is one of the key ways the HSFO provides information to the public on heart disease and stroke related topics. CPP Volunteer Speakers conduct presentations in their community using materials the Foundation has developed. If your group would like to have a presentation, please call our office to set up arrangements.
 
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

The Barrie Area Office of the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario is looking for Volunteers to assist with various aspects of our community operation including:
 
Drivers (to make deliveries, we will pay mileage)
Office help (answering phones, data entry, computer work etc.)
Receipt writers (in our office or at your home)
Canvassers (for our annual door to door campaign)
Chapter Members (to sit on our board)
Community presenters (educating the community)
Event helpers (eg Mother Daughter Walk, Big Bike etc.)
